Transworlds Photo Contest series

So I just entered a photo into the first of five photo contests for transworld snowboarding. This months contest was is suppose to be a backyard type of photo. I got the idea to hike along Falling Leaf Lake road and find something to hit. We came upon a cool cabin with a deck drop and some rails in the yard so we decided to stay. Go check the photo on transworlds website. Just copy and paste the link in your browser.

A Couple Videos

Over the weekend we received about 5-6 feet of snow on the mountain. It was the perfect time to break trail in our secret spot. Heres a little first person view of what its like to shred some small pillows then tumble into an infinite amount of snow.

This video is from November when we got about 2-3 feet of snow. I had just gotten my new Nikon D7000 and I wanted to mess with the video. I went on a little hike in my backyard and found a nice little rock drop. So I set my camera up and pressed play.

Thanks for viewing!

On Saturday December 11, South Shore Fitted hosted their 3rd annual South Shore Throwdown rail jam in the center on Heavenly Village. There were tons of spectators along with sponsor booths and a live band. The vibes were great and contestants were THROWING DOWN! The contest was long, but in the end, proved to be a great success.

There were 3 divisions, Mens snowboarding, womens snowboarding, and Skiing.

Here are some photos from the event.

Getting Ready to drop in.

Heavenly Opens over 50% on 2nd day!

So last week I purchased a Nikon D7000. For the most part so far I have been messing with the video because its effing sweet! An edit will be coming soon. But this week I started shooting pictures with it. Its fast and sharp, can't wait to get the season going in full swing!

On Wednesday, November 24 Heavenly opened all of the terrain on the Cali side with over 5 feet of snow. I got the opportunity to go out and ride and shoot some of it before going to work. Here are a few shots.

Falling Behind

So I went to class today and realized that I am getting a little behind in photo requirements. So I went home and knocked out two of the assignments.

I decided to shoot my room mate Dave and his stapled elbow. He recently had surgery and the Doc cut a nasty gash on his arm. This photo covers the portrait requirement.

Next I needed a photo that is color dominant and/ or displays a certain mood. My other sub-room mate or Couch Guy volunteered...and yes I made him. I used a gel on one flash and made a snoot out of tin foil on the other flash to illuminate only his eyes.

I was kinda stoked after the shoot because I realized how short of a time it took me to set up and dial my flashes. I feel like I'm finally starting to memorize how my settings need to be in certain situations. Can't wait to keep practicing portraits!

First Snow in Tahoe

Last weekend it finally snowed after 6 months of waiting. The snow mostly accumulated in higher elevations but we got about an inch at lake level. Sine it was dumping on Sunday my roommate Merrick wanted to go jib something. So we set out on a short hike from the top of an access road and found a sweet mountain bike drop. We decided to do save that for Tuesday. We hiked 5 more minutes and he found this janky ass log perched on a rock. The run in was bushes, the landing was bushes, and there was a downed tree right after. Needless to say he slayed it!

Monday a small crew of us drove down to kirkwood where they received a foot and a half. I had plans to get to some mine cabins I had researched but that didnt work out too well. My car just couldnt plow through the snow on road anymore so we parked it and started hiking. Found another log jam option that was so so. The better part was the drive out when we saw an old wooden cattle fence and started sessioning over that.

Then Tuesday we went back and set up the mountain bike drop. So fun but sketchy as hell!

Can't wait til the season officially starts next week!

First Day of the season- Mammoth Lakes, CA

Ever since last Saturday Tahoe has been shitty. Rain, lightning, and...what? snow? OK not shitty, but ballin outta control! I was at work Tuesday night when I got the call from Claire that Mammoth got 6 inches and she had a friend that invited us to stay at her place and shoot something for her website. Without thinking I walked in to the dining room and told Chris we could snowboard and immediately he said We're Going! On Thursday, October 7th, at 8:30am Claire, Chris, and I were on our way to Mammoth.

When we arrived we met up with Shannon, or Shay for short. Shay is awesome. She runs a site called shayboarder.com (sorry it won't let me post a link) which is what I was there taking photos for. Check it out! There's all kinds of reviews, pictures, interviews, and other miscellaneous stuff for the mind of a shredder.

Getting ready

Anyways, She needed to write a blog post about the Banshee Bungee, so she chose Claire as the talent, and Claire chose me to photograph. The purpose was to take shots of her using a bungee with an end result. Around noon Shay took us to the spot where we wanted to hike and also gave us a brand new Banshee Bungee to use for whatever we find.

Ya that's a PBR

Half hour hike in and an hour and a beer later we found the feature. It was a little 10 ft long angled tree with gnarly branches. Not anything too crazy but posed a challenged because of its flex. We attached the bungee a couple trees behind the feature. In order to use this thing it took two of us to pull the rubber braided rope back to the rider. Chris then had to support the bungee with his back against the tree while I ran to get into position. Then he hands it off and it is an instant speed burst. After Chris and Claire figured it out they started grinding the feature. About an hour and a half at the feature we got some shots and started the hike back down.

End of the day

It all ended with a trip to the hot tub and beers and snowboard videos, Amen.
I want to thank Shay for all her hospitality and the awesome gift! Also, Chris, hey thanks for driving. We'll definitely be back in Mammoth soon. Oh yeah, don't forget about shayboarder.com and check out her post about the bungee and you can see my photos!

Starting a blog

So I am finally starting a blog so my family, friends, and others can read about what I am doing. I have been putting this off for the longest time. I've given up on a website and figured I would just use this to blog to post weekly photos and news.

So I will start with a little news..... Its getting colder! And SteezTech's new 2010-2011 line and website will be coming out real shortly and I took almost all of the photos for the site. So, everyone should check it out on 10/10/10 at Steeztech.com These guys are RAD!

Speaking of Taking photos for their site, I also took photos of their DJ, Derek DiLeo, for his private page on the site. They are super cool photos showing the motion of his record. Check em out on the new website. Heres a few photos from the nights I photographed DJ Derek DiLeo
